The good news is that monthly premiums in the state of VA are on the lower side. The bad news is that the state of Virginia allows for what is called ‘area factoring’. Typically your more expensive rates are going to be for cities like Arlington, Virginia Beach, Norfolk and Chesapeake. In these cities, Plan F sample rates for a 70-year-old male non-tobacco user start at $158.72. For a 70 year old female who is a non-tobacco user, the rate for Plan F is $138.13. If you joined Medicare on or after January 1, 2020, you cannot purchase Plan F.
The least expensive cities to get the best Medigap rates are found in Richmond, Roanoke and towns such as Winchester.
Supplement rates for these lower costing areas for a 70 year old male, non-tobacco user, start around $135 per month for Plan F. For a 70 year old female, non-tobacco user, the rates start aound $117 per month for Plan F.
